Aglaé Bassens

by
Billy tartour

Aglaé Bassens (b. 1986, Belgium) is a Belgian-born artist who lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. She received her MFA in Fine Art Painting from the Slade School of Fine Art, London (2011) and a BA in Fine Art from the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art, Oxford University (2007). Her paintings capture intimate, fleeting moments, blending personal memory with a universal sense of nostalgia. Drawing from her personal archive and found imagery, she transforms ordinary scenes into poetic reflections on absence and longing. Her delicate yet expressive brushwork creates a haunting sense of familiarity, inviting viewers into her evocative world. Bassens' work has been exhibited in leading galleries such as Hesse Flatow (New York), 12.26 (Dallas, Los Angeles), and Workplace (London). She was the subject of a solo exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami in 2023. Her paintings are part of prestigious collections, including the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami, and Colección SOLO, Madrid.
